Storm Preparedness Checklist

I started this list last year and it looks like we’re going to need it again. I’ll divide it into food and non-food items so it’s more organized, I hope! If I’m missing anything, comment below and I can add it to the main list – thanks!

Non-Food Items

  • Aluminum foil
  • Baby diapers and any other baby supplies
  • Backpacks – in case you have to evacuate
  • Batteries – or charge rechargeable ones
  • Bike helmets – for protecting your head during high wind events
  • Bleach
  • Bug spray
  • Camping stove
  • Candles
  • Cash
  • Charcoal for grilling
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Coolers for storing cold foods
  • Dish soap for hand washing dishes
  • Documents – birth certificates, passports, insurance documents, etc.
  • Duct tape
  • Emergency radios – we have the ones you crank by hand
  • First aid supplies – alcohol, peroxide, bandaids, benedryl cream, neosporin, aloe, cold packs, gauze, Tylenol, liquid benedryl
  • Flashlights
  • Floatation devices – in case of flooding
  • Garbage bags
  • Gloves – for cleaning up afterward (latex for indoors and heavy-duty for outdoor cleanup)
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Hygiene supplies – soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, floss, etc.
  • Manual can opener
  • Matches or lighters
  • Pads or tampons
  • Paper goods – tp, paper towels, plates, cups, cutlery, etc.
  • Pet carrier
  • Pet food
  • Pet supplies – cat litter, vaccination records
  • Plastic wrap or containers for storing food
  • Prescriptions – for humans and pets
  • Propane for camping stove
  • Rain boots
  • Soaps – body, dish, hand
  • Solar phone charger
  • Sunblock
  • Wipes – for hands, and other kind for cleaning up
  • Ziploc bags

Food Items

  • Applesauce or other fruit in single servings
  • Baby foods
  • Bread
  • Canned food
  • Cereal bars
  • Crackers
  • Dried fruit
  • Dry cereal or granola
  • Fruit – bananas, oranges, apples, and others that don’t require cooling
  • Ice
  • Instant coffee and shelf-stable non-dairy creamer
  • Jelly
  • Nut or seed butter that don’t require cooling
  • Nuts
  • Pet food
  • Pretzels
  • Shelf-stable drinks – Gatorade, powders to add to water, any other drinks
  • Water

I also try, depending on how much time I have, I try to make as many shelf-stable snacks and baked goods for us to eat.
